Who are NZISM

The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) represents the interests of individual members who work in private, corporate or public sector organisations throughout New Zealand. NZISM helps members develop their skills and knowledge as health & safety professionals in their organisations or businesses. We are also developing a career path for occupational health & safety practitioners.

Objectives of the NZISM

To establish, maintain and promote excellence in occupational health and safety management in New Zealand.
To advance and maintain interest in occupational health and safety management by means of education and publicity through all communications media.
To co-ordinate and liase with other bodies and organisations in promoting the practice and profession of occupational health and safety management.
To encourage the recognition of the Institute’s involvement within occupational health and safety.
To promote professional recognition of NZISM as an authority in health and safety matters in the workplace.
To develop ethical awareness and integrity through the Institute’s involvement in occupational health and safety issues.
To research and develop occupational health and safety procedures and practices.
To provide such services and facilities as determined from time to time by the National Executive, relating to the achievement of these objectives.

Members Code of "Professional Behaviour "

The purpose of any code is that of providing guidance in the acceptable way a task should be done, or the way one expects a person to perform.

The Panel has presented this code as a guide and reference to be used in the event of a complaint or dispute arising. As a guide to interpretation the “Principle of Best Endeavours” will be applied.

NZISM members shall:-

Provide sound judgment in pursuance of their professional duties.
Follow the highest standards of integrity.
Uphold the honour and dignity of the health and safety profession.
Engage only in activities which will maintain and enhance the quality of their professional services.
Take all reasonable steps to increase the competence and prestige of their profession.
Uphold the principles of the Privacy Act.
Avoid conflicts of interest.
Use a professional approach to compete fairly with other members.
Support the confidence of members/colleagues in other members.
Strive to improve their professional growth and encourage colleagues to develop professionally.
In the event of any dispute/formal complaint, fully co-operate with any assigned member of The Panel.
